In 2016, the general style research was conducted in Mentougou District, Beijing. As one of three major towns in Mentougou District, Tantuosi Town has rich historical and cultural heritages as well as the characteristic resources including famous royal temple (Tantuosi), famous mountain in West Beijing (Dingdu Peak) and ancient recreation villages. The whole town occupies an area of about 80 sq.km and the administrative region occupies an area of about 4 sq.km.

      The planning of Tantuosi Town aims to build a characteristic town of cultural tourism and finance as well as a famous recreational town of meditation culture. And its style is identified as “Meditation Tantuo and Recreational Life in Mountains”.

      The whole town takes the meditation health cultural center-Tantuosi and mountainous recreational tourism center- Dingdu Peak as the core of its cultural features. In the surrounding area, the recreational lifestyle in mountains will be built through protecting the villages in west Beijing, reconstructing mountain roads for tourism and renovating ecological mountains.

      At the central area, the plan focuses on developing the main street connecting Tanzhe Temple as the characteristic experience path, and shaping the Meditation Tantuo through controlling and guiding the buildings along the street, the streets and the landscape nodes.

      In the traditional village Block 1, the texture of traditional street space shall be preserved to enhance the cultural memories for historical and cultural sections. The plan aims to build the habitat cultural village in West Beijing and the space to display the history of Tantuo in accordance with the spatial layout principle of optimizing functional layout, respecting the landscape environment, preserving historical and traditional characteristics and conducting flexible operation and in combination with the construction mode of “low-rise and high-density construction, organic gathering, and clustered development”.
